When I talk to the Gym owners it always come out that they are very happy to train people by doing classes but not so happy for the duties due to their role of enterpreneurs.
“The reason why I started m Box is because I wanted to train, have more time for myself and get rid of sitting 8 hours at a desk”. Of course this are all good motivations but unfortunately they don’t match to the life of a self-employed or, in this case, of an enterprenuer.
Not having to deal with a desk doesn’t mean that there are not processes that need to learnt, understood, designed and carried out. This fact may seem obvious but in the most part of cases it is not and it’s a cause of frustration because all the, let’s call it dirty job, it’s expected to be done by someone else.
Running a BOX, as well as running a business it’s not about specific skills but is more about strategic vision, it’s about figuring out how the whole engine will work in every one of its single parts and once understood this the job it is only at his beginning as the next steps are, for example, finding the right collaborators, make them tuned on the foundations of the company and then make sure that everything works well.
Said in other words, if you opened a Box because you wanted a place where to do your WODs whenever you wanted and following your own programming, you did the wrong thing. Frankly it would has been better to equip your home garage. What I mean is that if you think to run a business, tiny or large it may be, you need to do what a business owner is expected to do and this is not training all the time. Let’s say that if you’re clever enough you will cut out some time for yourself but all, all, all your efforts are to grow the business and make sure that everything is fine with it.
Unfortunately there is not thing like “I’ll do tomorrow”, you need to stick to your agenda and your duties and do everything Rx. Without this mindset there is no sense to go on further and wait that someone can do your work for you. As a consultant I can assure you that working with me you can learn a lot of things, get plenty of skills and in general become smarter but if you think that this is effortless, buddy, you’re wasting you time and your money. Believe me.
Think this: all the other people have a job that takes on average 8 hours of their day and if they are lucky or if they want to, there are some one or two hours to dedicate to physical training. Now unless you’re a professional athlete your schedule should be the same and your priority, as after all is your job, should be run your business, just like normal people out there do.
So, before complaining with the whole world because things are not going as you wanted, ask yourself if you really did everything possible to make it happens and if you don’t see any mistake, then, but only them, call me or guys like me ad we don’t have the magic wand and neither can di the job instead of you.
This is what you got to do and, remember, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
